We believe in listening to our clients and adapting exercise and fitness programmes to suit individual people.  A number of factors can contribute to weight loss and at Harris Fitness we can provide advice and education on fitness levels, nutrition, stress management and sleep behaviour to help you lose weight. 

Firstly, good nutrition and exercise triggers weight loss and it is imperative to eat a balanced diet if you want to lose weight.   Weight loss is about cutting down on saturated fats, alcohol, takeaways and sweets but not necessarily cutting them out completely!  There are many myths surrounding weight loss, for example cutting out all snacks helps you lose weight, foods labelled ‘low fat’ or ‘reduced fat’ are always a healthy choice and starving yourself is the best way to lose weight (www.nhs.uk).  Our personal trainer Neil is qualified to give advice on nutrition and your initial assessment with him will include an analysis of all the components of your lifestyle.

Secondly, adding activities that promote or maintain muscle mass will make your muscles work harder and will raise your metabolic rate.  By increasing your metabolic rate you will increase the amount of calories you burn whilst training and this will inevitably lead to weight loss.  In order to maximise success with weight loss, research suggests that a variety of different training methods are needed to increase your chances of losing weight.     At Harris Fitness we believe in making exercise fun and enjoyable.  During your initial consultation our personal trainer Neil will discuss with you personal goals, appropriate timescales, nutrition, stress and sleep patterns and you will receive a health check including blood pressure, resting heart rate, lung function, weight and height measurements.

Following your initial assessment Neil will provide a personalised exercise programme based around your specific goals, which will be reviewed at regular intervals.  Your programme will be changed to avoid boredom, plateau and to increase your chances of losing weight.
