Sports Massage is the scientific assessment and manipulation of
soft tissue in the prevention of injuries. Good physical condition
can be maintained through Sports Massage which helps to normalise
and improve muscle tone, promote relaxation, stimulate circulation
and produce therapeutic effects on all of the systems of the body.
By palpating the tissues the therapist is able to locate, identify
and treat areas of specific tension within the tissues that could
lead to potential injury sites. Sports massage can be used in a
number of ways:-
- As part of a warm-up in preparation for competitions
- As a method of keeping muscles warm and elastic between events
or heats during competition
- To assist in avoiding overuse type injuries and aid rehabilitation
as a treatment for injury
